Spectator Safety, Spectator Areas and Car Parking
This page combined with the Car Park FAQs page will outline:
- What the event organisers have put in place regarding spectating and car parking for Grizedale Stages Rally
- What the organisers expect from spectators and car park users.
They are intended to give you the best information to allow you to "Get Close to the Action" and allow you and your fellow spectators to have SAFE, great days Motorsport.
These pages are the official position of the Organisers of Grizedale Stages Rally. We are volunteers but we take the job of organising Grizedale Stages and its surrounding safety very seriously!
We are ultimately responsible for the safe running of the rally. Please, read, digest and adhere to the following if you are spectating at this year’s event.
Car Parking
- Use the official car parks. Do not park on verges - this is dangerous and extremely detrimental to local community relationships and therefore, the future of the event. You may think you can save yourself £10 but you will cost the rally an absolute fortune in bad PR.
- Car Park tickets are available online from 12:00 8th November 2025 via the event website.
- We have limited spaces on the car parks and will stop selling once they sell out online. Please monitor our website and social media for updates on availability.
- Event programmes will be issued on entry to the car park.
- The charge for parking is £10 (plus small booking fee) per vehicle no matter how many passengers.
- The parking fee is split between (1) NW4x4 (A Registered Charity) who provide the marshals for the car parks, (2) the Forestry Commission who own the car parks, and (3) the Rally to cover the cost of printing the Spectator Programme.
- For the whole of the event there are Rights of Way Closure Orders in place which prohibits anyone who is not a bone fide spectator. Anyone entering the forest from anywhere other than the spectator car parks will NOT be considered a “bone fide spectator” and will therefore potentially be committing a criminal offence by entering the forest. This applies whether on foot or in a vehicle.
- Forestry England car parks at Kennels and Moor Top will remain open. These are operated by FE - totally separately from Grizedale Stages Rally car parks.
Spectator Areas
- We have selected some of the best locations for watching the rally. These are all directly accessible from the spectator car parks WITHOUT the need to walk on the stages. These are your “spectator areas”. Spectators do not have to remain within these areas although we would discourage anyone from leaving them, especially if you are not an experienced rally spectator.
If you do choose to leave the “spectator areas” then you must obey the following: - Do not walk on the stage whilst it is “live”. The stage will be considered live” from the point the Spectator Control vehicle enters the stage (c.30-40 mins before the first competitor) until the Course Closer has passed. This means that if you don’t want to stand in the spectator areas then you need to turn up at least an hour before the First car is due to find your chosen viewing point. And stay there.
- You must spectate from a SAFE location.
- Follow the marshal and safety car advice If you are advised to move by marshals or the safety cars you must do so immediately, the safety cars check the whole stage and need to move quickly. If you are outside of the spectator areas, we would expect you to be an experienced spectator, and experienced spectators know that safe locations are generally above and back from the stage, clear of run offs and never on the outside of bends.
- By entering the forest, you are accepting that you will follow the safety directions given to you by marshals and officials. REMEMBER; being in an unsafe position or not following the marshal’s instructions will result in the stage being delayed or cancelled.
General
The safe, calm, thoughtful and sensible behaviour of everyone involved with the event is vital to the future of rallying. It is also nice to be nice. So please show respect to your fellow spectators, the marshals and officials of the event and members of the public you encounter on the tracks and roads around Grizedale Forest. The car parks and surrounding roads do get very congested at the start and at the end of the event, please be patient. Please be responsible for the safety of yourself and those around you. Let’s have a cracking days motorsport.
