Explanation of the differences between Rights of Way (ROW) Closure and “Right to Roam” Suspension
During the event it is necessary to close footpaths and other rights of way for reasons of safety. There will be notices to make you aware of closed rights of way. Please read the Grizedale ROW Closure Notices for further details.
“Right to Roam” Suspended – 6th Dec 2025 - Case No 2025050529
There exists the “Right to Roam” on significant areas of Forestry Commission land. The order suspends the Rights for the whole of Saturday 6th December 2025. i.e. there is NO OPEN ACCESS.
Rights of Way Closure – 6th December 2025
The “Right to Roam” suspension mentioned above states that it does not affect the use of Public Rights of Way such as footpaths and bridleways.
That is where the Rights of Way Closure Order comes into play. This prohibits the use of public rights of way in the forest such as bridleways and footpaths.
