Servicing at Night

The Date for the 2010 Grizedale Stages is Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th December with one stage on the Friday starting at 18:30hrs and six stages on the Saturday starting at 09:30hrs.

MSA Permits; We have applied for two permits to allow for competitors who want to do the event without staying overnight.

“GSR2010 Full Fat” features

  • A 7-mile stage on the evening of Friday 3rd December in Grizedale Forest
  • Six stages totaling 35 miles on Saturday 4th December

"GSR2010 Semi-Skimmed” features

  • Six stages totaling 35 miles on Saturday 4th December

These ‘two events’ will run concurrently on the Saturday.

The format; Friday evening kicks off from Coniston Main Car Park at 18:30hrs with 5 road miles and 7 stage miles. A short emergency service follows the stage. Saturday remains similar to our usual one-day event with two long stages in Grizedale (9 miles and 6 miles), followed by Service A (30mins). Then out to Dunnerdale for the short (2.5 miles) stage run twice, dove-tailing in at 30 second intervals. Then back for another 30 minute Service followed by Re-Group – to close up gaps in the field caused by you lot falling off!! – and then a repeat of the two long stages in Grizedale. In total the stage mileage is 42 miles. Road mileage is 52 (including the Friday night).

Trailer Park will be at the Coniston Boating Centre car park in Coniston.

Scrutineering will take place at Monk Coniston Car Park, ¾ of a mile outside of Coniston, at the head of the lake, from 2pm on Friday afternoon. You may be required to “re-scrutineer” on Saturday morning.

Servicing; There will be an “emergency service” of 10mins at the end of the Friday stage. There will be no “parc ferme” overnight. The main service area will be at Skelwith Fold Caravan Site 5 miles NE of Coniston. There are two 30-minute services during Saturday. There is no access except on Saturday 4th and no overnight occupation allowed.

Signing-On will be in the Tourist Information Office, adjacent to the main car park. This will be open on Friday from 2pm and Saturday morning. The main car park will host the start on both Friday and Saturday (MTC1 & MTC3)

Prize-giving and final results will be at the John Ruskin School on Lake Road. This is also the finish/MTC4.

Safety Notes from Pattersons and a DVD of the stages, and Pine Lodge Maps for the road sections and stages will be available at your expense.

Interim Results will be available after Fridays stage on various computer screens around Coniston (details of locations will be given in Finals Instructions). Timecards will be collected on Saturday after each pair of stages and results available at the “Service Out” control and at the finish.

Management Cars and Service Vans; NO chase cars, ONE service van only allowed. We’re not being difficult but the roads around here are very narrow and two-way traffic is a certain accident waiting to happen so please don’t bring a chase car. We have come up with a “clever” route this year and an ‘out-of-place’ support car will be very obvious. We have decided to burn any we find this year. Room at the service area is limited so just one service van please.

Accommodation in Coniston is limited. Yes that is true but remember that it’s a holiday village so there are more hotels, B&B’s, self-catering cottages etc than you’d expect. Just book early!!! Of course, our sponsor this year – Coppermines – may be able to help.
